Narrative Writing

CURRICULUM

Writing is an act of imagination; it builds from the raw materials of life and language. Students in this course will read, write, and discuss a variety of genres. This includes autobiographies, fairy tales, fantasies, short stories, and poetry. In one term, students will develop their own original works and ideas. Through this process, students will gain higher proficiencies in writing, as well as history, social studies, social sciences, literature, and all standardized testing.

 

KEY IDEAS AND GOALS:

  • Accurately identify the five elements of a story: plot, setting, characters, theme, and conflict

  • Choose and develop strategies for various writing genres

  • Utilize elements of style, including word choice and sentence variation

  • Edit writing for correct grammar, capitalization, punctuation, and sentence structure

  • Engage in informal and formal writing assignments

  • Create a plot line and identify the parts of a plot

  • Create and analyze characters

  • Create and recognize the setting in a story 

 

TEACHER

Alexander Harasimowicz is the teacher of Thetaworks’ Novel course. Alexander studied political science at Yale University, where he took classes on international relations, comparative literature, and media analysis. Additionally, he has prepared both himself and his students for several AP exams, including Literature and Language & Composition. He loves reading, and has extensive experience guiding students through reading comprehension and literary analysis exercises.

 

 

  • CLASS TIME

    Thursday 6-7pm PDT

  • RECOMMENDED AGES

    Middle school students and advanced upper elementary graders.

  • RETURN & REFUND POLICY

    Tuitions are not refundable. Students may transfer the class credit to other classes. Please contact us for details.
